Pastoral Idyll - Oil on Canvas (attributed to Joseph Roos, 1726 - 1805)

J. Roos was an austrian painter and the great-grandson of Johann Heinrich Roos (1631 - 1685) one of the most important German animal painter of the 17th century. His realistic views of animals in the gentle sunshine of southern landscapes were well known. After completing his training in Vienna, Roos moved to Dresden/ Germany, where he became a member and professor for landscape painting at the academy of arts.
After irreconcilable differences between Giovanni Battista Casanova he moved back to Vienna in 1769 and became the head of the Imperial Picture Gallery.

The canvas was carefully restored by our experts; the wonderful golden Biedermeier frame has some minor damage (see detailed pictures)
